#BlendedBeauty: The Go-To Foundation For Combination Skin
Picking the perfect foundation, for women of color, can be challenging. Not only do you have to find a brand that caters to melanin-rich complexions, but also one that’s formulated for your specific skin type. Whether oily, dry, or combination, there are a host of skin conditions that should be considered in the search for the perfect foundation. Most women will agree, finding a foundation that compliments both skin tone and type isn’t an easy feat.
In our #BlendedBeauty series, we teamed up with Sephora to help women of different skin types find the perfect foundation. Some suffer from acne-prone skin while others experience discoloration or hyperpigmentation. After hearing about their challenges, our makeup artist used a mix of specially-picked foundations to help these blended beauties find the right brand to enhance their complexion and compliment their skin type.

Skin Type: Combination
My skin is true combination skin. It’s both oily and dry. My cheeks are usually dry and my t-zone area is oily. Most makeup doesn’t fit my skin type. As a woman with dark skin, finding the right foundation has always been a painful process for me. When I first started wearing makeup in the mid-2000’s, a lot of brands just didn’t have a wide range of shades that matched darker tones. And my combination skin type only made it even harder to find a brand that worked.
I remember when I first found a brand that offered shades for dark skin. I went into Sephora and asked for a line that had a good range of colors. Once I found one and learned how to apply it, I began feeling more confident.
Having the right foundation gives me that inner confidence to go out in the world and do what I need to do. It took a long time to get to the point where I love my skin, but now I’m happy with it. Makeup shouldn’t change you. It should enhance what you already love about yourself.
The Fix: I really like my new Hourglass, Vanish Seamless Finish Liquid Foundation in Walnut. It’s really easy to apply and is perfect for my combination skin. As I mentioned parts of my face are dry and the other parts are really oily. I made sure that I was really moisturized before applying the foundation, and I didn’t have any problems with oiliness or dryness.
Brand: Hourglass, Vanish Seamless Finish Liquid Foundation: Innovative coated pigments create a smooth, long-wearing application without drying out the skin. Formulated with long-wearing, oil-free and vegan formula.
