Coalition of Women’s Organizations Release Joint Statement In Response to Trump’s Disgraceful Attacks on Vice President Harris Higher Heights for America, EMILYs List, Women Vote, Ultraviolet Action, and National Women’s Law Center Action Fund Denounce Disrespectful Comments in Leaked July 4th Audio
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, a coalition of organizations that work to promote women’s leadership and combat sexist disinformation reacted to the leaked audio of former President Donald Trump’s profane rant attacking Vice President Kamala Harris. Higher Heights, EMILY’s List Women Vote, Ultraviolet Action and National Women’s Law Center Action Fund released the following joint statement in support of our nation’s first woman Vice President: Donald Trump is attacking Vice President Harris because he can’t stand to see a Black woman who is smarter than him, tougher than him, and more respected than him getting the praise she deserves for her leadership. This Fourth of July we celebrate the woman who made history as the first Black and Asian American woman elected Vice President — and the proud, multi-racial democracy who will vote to protect our country from would-be dictators this November.# # # UltraViolet Action is a community of more than one million people that drives feminist cultural and political change. Through people power and strategic advocacy, we work to improve the lives of women and girls of all identities and backgrounds, and all people impacted by sexism, by dismantling discrimination and creating a cost for sexism. EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color.
