Houston natives, Beyonce Knowles-Carter and Kelly Rowland, are making a great impact in their hometown city by giving back. The superstars are working with Harris County officials to build a 31-unit housing complex called the Knowles-Roland House. It will be a permanent, supportive housing complex located in Houston, TX, that will directly impact and benefit those that are experiencing homelessness.
This complex will cost nearly $8.4 million, with $7.2 million being funded by the American Rescue Plan. During a press conference, Harris County judge Lina Hidalgo stated they were “planning a bigger initiative and launch” in September, around the time Beyonce will be in town during her Renaissance tour.
Judge Hidalgo also spoke about the 20% reduction in homelessness in the middle of the pandemic and how they’ve been able to hold that reduction. It looks like the numbers will only improve as Beyonce and Kelly will be changing the lives of the homeless with this new project. “We just did the homeless count again, so it’s initiatives like this one I certainly will be supportive of no matter who’s behind it,” Judge Hidalgo said.
In addition to the housing units, residents will also have access to other resources. The Knowles-Roland House will have support services like transportation, mental health, and behavioral health support. There will also be case managers and peer and service specialists available.
Though Beyonce and Kelly’s supportive and giving nature isn’t a surprise, it is good to know that they are continuously giving back to the city that raised and supported them.
